Summary/Abstract: This paper presents collection of stories about Nasradin — Moslem priest, which was written by Stevan Sremac in 1894. He used different sources — oral tradition, notes of folktales and translations from German and Bulgarian editions. After short review of translationes and folklor material published in the nineteenth century (Vuk’s Proverbs, comic folk stories in the works of Vuk Vrcevic and several collectors from Bosnia) there are analised: structure of Sremac’s book, elementes of Nasradin’s biografy, connections with other tipical characters, variants of oral comic stories, their connections with other oral forms and archaic layers of tradition.
