DISAPPEARANCE OF THE EPIC WORLD IN THE SERBIAN REALISTIC SHORT STORY

Summary/Abstract: Already the contemporaries of the realist writers noticed — and later researchers only confirmed and described in greater detail — a strong influence of the oral literature on the poetics of the Serbian realist narrators. However, not all folklore genres were equally integrated into the realistic genre system. The paper points out to the incompatibility of the epic and realistic image of the world, and to the tendency in the realistic text towards the parodic and humouristic reinterpretations of the knowledge about the world which had been stored in the epic poem.
