Summary/Abstract: The paper discusses the genre complexity of Ćopic’s novel Doživljaji mačka Toše (The Adventures of Toša Cat), primarily from the viewpoint of the poetics of some oral prose genres (oral stories about animals, fairy-tales, comic stories, fantasies, oral narratives). On the other hand, the paper also points to the link with the basic genological features of the European adventure novel, as well as to the possibility to parody some of its basic characteristics, with the influence of the absurd and grotesque. Even though critics have determined this work in different ways (prose, narrative, story...), this paper tries to show why this work is a novel.
