Summary/Abstract: The fact that John Updike’s works have been based on his life story becomes quite obvious when we compare the usage of same autobiographical motives in his novels. This comparison also clearly points how important the context is for their meaning. Updike has also re-used already used motives for his autobiographical essays, which has additionaly blurred the borders between fiction and reality.
