Amendments to the justice package laws on the career of judges and prosecutors

Summary/Abstract: 14 years after the entry into force of the three laws on justice system, radical changes of them have been initiated. Politicians, judges, prosecutors and civil society have been involved in the public debate. Apparently, the amendments aimed at strengthening the independence of the judiciary and limiting the abuse of members of judiciary. In fact, many changes have proved to be unconstitutional or contrary to the recommendations contained in the European Commission's reports under the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism, the negative consultative Opinions of the Superior Council of Magistracy and against the will of thousands of magistrates. The worst is the increase of the minister's power over prosecutors, which is a clear sign of political control over criminal justice.
