Summary/Abstract: In this paper the author analyses relation of Jovan Sterija Popovic’s poetry towards philosophical and ethical ideas of Christianity and stoicism. About that, the interpretation of Dragiša Zivkovic’s about possible influence of British writer E. Young on poetry of Sterija’s Davorje is examinating especially on his „gravely” poems. There are facts about that the poet of Davorje is much closer to antique (stoical) then Christian ideas. Sterija appears as enlightening moralist, who inspires and relies himself in a circle of his meanings on the understandings of antique authors, classicist who from antique literature doesn’t receive only principles about form, nor only thematic- motivical and symbolical material and stylish means, then much more: ideas and meanings of classical antique, antique spirit.
