Summary/Abstract: The use of language and its features have always attracted the attention of linguists. However, over time, rather than fixate solely on the formal structure of language, linguists have focused on language’s expressive tools and their functional use, the effects that attempts to exercise such functions produce on listeners, and factors such as the human factor. In so doing, they have developed different sciences such as pragmatics and stylistics. These two sub-fields of linguistics deal with the functional – rather than the structural – features of language. In other words, these are the branches of science that enable an understanding of how and in which ways language is used, and which thus allow a precise ascertainment of the very essence of language. In this study, the role and importance of pragmatics and stylistics in the teaching of Russian spoken language, which has its own unique structure and characteristics, is revealed. The aim of the study is to draw attention to the importance of pragmatics and stylistics in the teaching of spoken Russian.
