Summary/Abstract: A swear word is a verbal form of great expressive power that writers often like to use with a variety of functional signs. In everyday linguistic practice, it is usually a signal of a conflict situation and the way of psychological relief caused by an affective pressure. In contrast to its colloquial use, in a work of literature a swear word can obtain more features. In addition to its function in the sociological and psychological context, it can successfully be incorporated into the ethnographic and mentality-conditioned literature recordings. It can also sometimes reach archetypal depths of ceremonial speech in the direct kinship proximity with the curse and incantation. The main literary functions of a swear word definitely represent a verbal portraiture of a character and creation of extremely dramatic situations, especially those related to the borders which are an inevitable companion of a war theme.
