The Choice of an Engineering Profession by Schoolchildren: Experience of Russia

Summary/Abstract: The article is devoted to the problem of the formation of the need forschoolchildren to choose the profession of an engineer. There is a shortage of engineers all over theworld and in Russia, as well. A small percentage of school leavers choosing to study science isconsidered to be a big problem. The author proposes a program for organizing the educationalprocess, which is aimed at developing the engineering thinking of schoolchildren. The organization ofpre-university preparation of schoolchildren at the university, which contributes to increasing theloyalty to the profession of an engineer, has been completed. A pedagogical experiment wasconducted, during which questioning and interviewing of listeners were used, monitoring of theactivities of teachers and students in the classroom. The value of the work consists in using theproposed training program to enhance the professional self-determination of schoolchildren and thechoice of the profession of an engineer on the basis of integrating the educational systems of the schooland university.
