Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the referential aspects of the significance of terms in natural sciences and humanities. It is asserted that strict interaction with the studying object in theprocess of scientific experimental practice excludes identification of the referential and the meaningaspects of semantic of the terms in natural sciences. In oppose to natural sciences humanities answerquestions and explore ideal objects which are going beyond practical, material interaction ofmankind with the environment. Just because of this the objects of humanitarian knowledge whichare the referents of humanitarian terms can be introduced in research by definitions only.
