Social Capital of Tourist Family Businesses in Polish Jura Region. Case Study

Summary/Abstract: Economic activity of companies depends on the social environment. Because rural areas are more homogeneous than the urban population, in terms of both social and economic aspects, it may impinge on a necessity of a greater effort to adapt businesses to their environment. Family businesses operating in rural areas, which’s rangeof activity transcends their local environments, gain greater independence. At the same time bonds typical for a homogeneous environment can generate more stable socialcapital. The authors of this paper present the results of empirical research on social capital of family businesses operating in rural areas. Qualitative research in the form of freein-depth interview has been conducted among tourist companies of Polish Jura Region.The issue included: family relationships in running tourist enterprise, neighborly relations conducive to building social capital, rural community and customer relationships that generate ecological system of a household.
