Summary/Abstract: The international expansion of the company is nowadays a necessity. This also applies to family businesses. Researches on internationalization of family businesses are ambiguous. Some results indicate that family firms are doing much worse on foreign markets because of the family character that makes businesses more conservative and reluctant to risk, including the risk of expansion. Other studies however show that thanks to the involvement of the family, foreign expansion is much easier and that they do not differ from non-family businesses. In many countries which survey the entrepreneurial families, there are no national statistical surveys about family business, not to mention how they operate on foreign markets. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to present the official nation wide statistics regarding the internationalization of Polish family businesses. In the paper the author presents range and the countries of expansionof family businesses, the relationship between internationalization and the size of the family business, the industry in which it operates, gender of business owners and the presence and composition of the board.
