Summary/Abstract: The essay attempts the depiction of the dramatic destiny of Bartolomeu Valeriu Anania, a young monk and a former Medicine student in Cluj, and also an analysis of the meaning of his works (theological, literary and social). During „the obsessive decades”, he had the courage to testify the patriotic feeling and his faith – not as a rhetoric practice but as an expression of his trust in the moral force, in the Romanian dignity and creativity, both opened towards universal horizons. The monk and the tribune Bartolomeu Anania was a light bearer of the young Romanian interwar generation, characterized by seriosity, ideatic coherence and openess towards cultivating the national values. In 1946, Valeriu Anania was involved and even led the rebellion of the students from Cluj, stirred by the loss of several Romanian territories, after WWII. The young Romanians demanded the maintenance of the Romanian rights upon Transylvania, also claimed by the Hungarions. The consequences were harsh and ujust for Valeriu Anania: he was expelled from University, jailed in Aiud. A great theologian and writer was captured in a „history in tears”.
