Summary/Abstract: Multiculturalism, which expresses the living status of more than one cultures, is the cultures that closely engage in dialogue either within the same borders or different borders. Their key characteristics have been formed in different times or simultaneously, but by different societies. Identity is an expression for the existence of an individual. One may identify herself/himself based upon her/his history, religion, race, gender and geography. Identities divided into ethnic identity, religious identity, political identity, gender identity or cultural identity may cause unjust suffering when they are ignored and exposed to inequality situations. In works of art, the term “identity” also raises awareness through the identities by focusing on creative integration of individual’s identifications about the past, present roles and future desires. Present artists reflect their political, cultural, social and psychological thoughts via a pluralistic approach while using these susceptibilities. Works of the artists such as Miriam Schapiro, Jean Michel Basquiat, Shirin Neshat, Kara Walker, Lorna Simpson Kehinde Wileyve are examples of multiculturalism.
