Summary/Abstract: Human first met the first photograph shot in the first half of the 19th century. With the first shot of Nicerhore Niepce’s named ‘the View from the Window’, the photography technology has started and after while the area of influence of the photography has been enlarged. This technology, which is being used intensively at the present day as well, has found a large place by establishing relations with different arts.Since the photograph is one of the best indicators of the reality, and because of its proof power, persuasiveness and inquisitiveness and its structure which removes the uniqeness of the art object, it is preferred by many artists.The photograph, which is benefited from itself alone, sometimes produces meaning by itself; and sometimes it functions only as a helper material, a tool.The aim of this research is to attract attention to the large usage of the photograph in the contemporary art practice upon the examples how it takes part in the modern art and what kind of approaches has been followed.Qualitative research methods and techniques were used in the research in which general review modal has been taken as basis.In the research, the artists have been noticed that they have benefited from the photograph in different ways; some have used foundling photographs and thus have pointed out the uncertainty between the reality and the fictionality of the memories, past and consciousness of themselves and other people; and some have interrogated the concepts such as identity, gender, metamorphosis and patinence upon the roles which they have taken with their photographs.As a result it has been understood that photograph has been situated much more beyond from just to record the moment.
