Summary/Abstract: This article aims to analyze the Lithuanian youth housing provision opportunities and problems. Youth housing is related to many socio-economic factors: housing market, conditions for young people to become real estate owners and the young persons’ status in the labor market. Moreover, the newest demographic trends (declining birth rate, declining marriage rate, voluntary childlessness and etc.) also play an important role. The paper presents an analysis of the housing policy in the context of different welfare state models, discusses the legal regulation of housing policy and analyzes the key factors determining the opportunities of the provision of youth housing. Secondary data analysis strategy is applied in the article. The main sources used in this paper include the European Union Survey on Income and Living Conditions (EU-SILC 2007-2016) and the European Quality of Life Survey (Eurofound 2012). The results of the survey data reveal that young people from countries with a social democratic welfare state model have better access to housing, therefore, they leave their parents’ homes much earlier and start an independent life. Youth in Eastern and Central as well as in Southern Europe faces major challenges in housing provision. The neoliberal housing policy does not create favorable conditions for youth housing in Lithuania. Youth housing in Lithuania has turned into an increasingly relevant social problem: together with youth vulnerability in the labor market it increases youth emigration.
