Summary/Abstract: Our gender is something that we bring to this world as we are born. This biological gender is the whole of the characteristics defined by our DNA structure and chromosomes, looking at our reproductive organs, and is defined even before birth, inside the mother's womb. However, there is also a social gender role that we have to learn and assume after our birth. This situation is called "social gender". From a social perspective, gender is defined as the social and cultural role expectations of men and women. It is a field of bound aries active in every moment of our lives for both women and men defining "how they should be". In the field of art, gender identity has sometimes been revealed as the main subject, and sometimes, it has remained a side line, to be found in the artist's identity and reflected in his art. It has shown its substantial presence in plastic arts with self-derived concepts or just as just being itself. Feminists started to research the history of arts with the publishing of the paper entitled "Why Have There Been No Great Women Artists?" on 1971, and they became the supporters of female artists since then. From this point on, a feminist understanding of arts came to be. And thus, gender identity became a "subject" in the field of arts. In light of feminist concepts, new ideas and theories began to Show themselves in the field of art. Although it started late in Turkey, female artists here started to express in their works, the violence and in equality they are being subjected to because of their gender. They show themselves through their work to question and dismantle the covers they had to wear with the social gender influence over the culture. Social gender which still is a popular subject, a side from being the subject of art works, it also still affect sour way of view in and interpreting the works of art.As an artistic discipline, the relationship of the artists of ceramics and contemporary ceramics with gender is usually in the form of them questioning their place in the culture through their own gender roles. The status of the female identity and its association with the earth has brought a different perspective to gender. As a research article in this sense, this study was prepared to ask questions regarding the relationship between the contemporary ceramics art and social gender role sand to find answers to those questions. The study also examines the perspective of contemporary artists over social gender roles.
