Summary/Abstract: Public or adult education has gained importance in the 20th century in accordance with societies’ attempts at progress. Distance education, which historically goes back to the first quarter of the 18th century, has a significant place among methods of adult education in the world and in Turkey. The process of distance education that was initially based on tools such as letters and newspapers has been developed with technological advancements in time. The Public University which was promoted by the Hürriyet newspaper in 1962 is one of the examples of distance education that contributed to the widespread adult education in Turkey. As a promotional application where media and education concurred, The Public University lasted three years. The purpose of the present study is to examine the articles or booklets that were published for Public University in the Hürriyet in detail. The main sources of the study are the news clippings and lecture notes on the subject in the Hürriyet between 1962 and 1965.
