Summary/Abstract: Eclectic and very erudite, the Saint Gerard’s treatise Deliberatio supra hymnum trium puerorum, ad Isingrimum liberalem, which was written in Cenad (now in Romania) between 1042-1046, offers at each lecture new and surprising delights to the hermeneut. This is the case with the concept coelestis philosophia, which even clearly derived from St. Augustine reveals here the spirit of the post-Carolingian epoque, when the ancient philosophies begin to be regarded as maids (ancillae) from the house of theology. The author points out that the paternity of this celebre metaphor must be attributed to St. Gerard, who used it 20 years before Peter Damian and his De divina omnipotentia (1067). In parallel, the author investigates who might be the addressee of St. Gerardʼs work, that Isingrim, master of liberal arts, in whose name Gerard puts into operation a whole dialectics for missionary purpose
