Summary/Abstract: The paper shows that the iterative (local and atemporal) meaning of the adverb άεί has a function of primary importance in Aristotle’s system, and that its use is strictly connected with the technical use of the term in mathematics. a parallel is set between Aristotelian and mathematical examples of iterative procedures: the way in which Aristotle handles the term and the relation with the pattern of use codified in mathematics are discussed. The notion of continuity and the other forms of boundlessness Aristotle allows in his system are then analysed in this perspective.
