Summary/Abstract: The true meaning assigned by each society to poetry differs in the course of time. Poetry emerges sometimes as a tool for transfer of ideologies or in others, as a tool for transfer of emotions. Poets like Sinasi and Namik Kemal, who are among the first representatives of Turkish Literature in Tanzimat Era, try to spread their thoughts by poetry, in addition to other literary types. In that sense, it becomes evident that in their poetry, poets target more at transferring information and teaching than prioritizing an aesthetic concern. On the other hand, there occur aesthetical changes in the Turkish poetic language with Abdülhak Hâmid and Recâizâde Mahmut Ekrem. Moreover, nature, which is one of the primary elements that romanticism highlights, turns into such a place the poet yearns for and wants to live in. Again with these poets, different views of nature, death, love and melancholy become the main themes of poetry. The perception of nature changes with poets like Tevfik Fikret and Cenab Sehabeddin. Especially Tevrik Fikret combines the external world with his pessimistic psychology, and poeticizes what he sees/wants to see or what he imagines according to this perception. In 20th century, attention of people who work on modern psychology tends towards processes of artistic creation. One of the most important results of these researches is that artists experience similar and extraordinary situations. The findings of modern psychology about artists ’experience are articulated by poets via different images. This article focuses on the poetic images of mainly Tevfik Fikret, Abdülhak Hâmid Tarhan, Recaizâde Mahmut Ekrem and Cenab Şahabettin who express the process of versification by their own poetic creations/in their poetry. In addition to topics such as meaning of poetry, change of poetry language, and reasons behind these changes; this article emphasize the phases of artistic creation such as encounter, concentration, and change through the images used by aforementioned poets.
