Summary/Abstract: Umberto Eco contributed enormously to the development of the processes of information and communication as well as their application in various artistic expressions through semiotics as a methodological approach. My aim in this text is to primarily inquire into the process of narration as a semiotic procedure and to explore his writing technique as a textual strategy. This method of research results from three causes: 1) both elements are results of processes of information and communication (see Eco, 1979); 2) both elements transcend the semiotic process, which means they become objects of the process of interpretation; and lastly, 3) both elements are complementary to one another or, in other words, both elements turn into applicative analytical methods in the domains of scholarship/science and arts. Scholars who have elaborated Eco’s issue of text and analysis are great in number. Some have attempted to contribute to the field of literature, see Chatman (1978), while others have worked in the field of semiotics, with a particular emphasis on the semiotics of culture, e.g. J. M. Lotman. Conversely, Eco endeavored to analyze the text as an entity in its own right.
