Summary/Abstract: The study “Settlements of Iron Age in Kosovo” treats the topics of types, organizing, and architecture of settlements in the Iron Age in the territory of Kosovo. A special treatment will be done to the organizing of settlements in the first phase of the Iron Age which are fortifications of the type of Gllasinac that can be mainly found in the settlements in hills. Furthermore, the focus will be also given on treating the evolution of settlements during three phases of Iron Age. Three types of settlements are distinguished during the Iron Age in the territory of Kosovo: settlements in hills, terrace and plain settlements. Few settlements are not interrupted, the life continued since the Neolith age up to Hellenistic Period and afterwards during the late antiquity. Settlements of the first phase of Iron Age are of importance and they are distinguished by a fortified system of walls. The wall is built by limestones with dimensions approximately 0,60-0,90 m and 0,54x0,78 m, and thickness 3,50-3,60 m. It consists of two sides, inner and outside. Meanwhile, inside is covered with small and medium size stones. The outside part consists of not more than two or three rows of stones. The wall does not have a foundation but is directly placed on the surface. Furthermore, in Kosovo exist few settlements of this period which are fortified with moat stones of dry soil. The settlements of this period are built in hills; in the more opened sides they were protected with two rows of walls, which surround the more accessible sides. Based on the basis of the typology of the surrounding walls, we can conclude that there are similarities with walls of Gajtan type, which belong to the Iron Age.
