Summary/Abstract: In Italian twentieth century literature we find several writers whose work stands out for the way literature embraces other disciplines, such as science, psychiatry, theology. In this paper we describe the mutual exchanges between different forms of knowledge by means of the metaphor of the breach, a passageway. We will consider the example of Primo Levi (in the passageway between literature and science) and Alda Merini (in the passageway between literature, madness, spirituality). While, in the lives of writers, the breach is experienced as a crack, on the other hand we find in their work a fusion of different cultures and languages, that contribute to a broader representation of nature and man.
