Punctuation: rules, trends and complexity. The cases of the point and the comma

Summary/Abstract: This paper aims to illustrate how punctuation in contemporary Italian language – a field which is considered poorly codified and barely codifiable – responds to specific communicativetextual regularities. Through the observation of the full stop and the comma in two particular and different forms of textuality, we will show how these norms guide the application of the signs and how they allow to distinguish between acceptable and non-acceptable usages.
