Summary/Abstract: We study different ways of coding the same denotative meaning in Italian and Russian that derive more from collective verbal usage than from differences in grammatical systems. For example, to express predicative relations in which the central element of the situation is described by an allusion to another situation, asyndeton/coordination (primarily anaphoric coordination) used in Russian examples is often expressed in Italian by appositive or predicative relative subordination, which creates a syntactically closer connection.
