Summary/Abstract: In 1908 Sigmunt Freud spoke of a particular type of approach to writing, in which the creative principle was subject to the laws of “His Majesty the Ego”. His proposal seems to be a response to the question on the reasons of the extraordinary fortune of bestsellers written according to a narrative structure of fairytale. In our paper we illustrate this mechanism on the example of Arturo Bandini, the leading figure of John Fante, an Italian-American writer and screenwriter.
