Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to analyse the phenomenon of prostitution from the point of view of the socio-demographic situation of the 1950s. The sources used in the research (mainly documents drawn up by the Interior Ministry and the General Headquarters of Civic Militia) have been analysed. They, as well as other sources, served as a basis for a further analysis to define the prostitution of the end of the 1950s. The analysis included, inter alia, the socio-demographic features of prostitutes, their types and problems, especially connected with health. The character of the phenomenon should be paid a special attention to. In most cases it was a street prostitution, and its later evolution took place in the 1960s.
