Summary/Abstract: This article covers Umberto Eco’s researches in the field of contemporary poetics that concern the problems of substantial changes in understanding and interpretation of a work of art. Openness, intertextuality and interpretation are emphasized as basic characteristics of contemporary poetics. Relevancy and importance of Eco’s conception for aesthetics is also highlighted, as the theory is helpful in defining main features of contemporary art.
