THE MAGIC OF MUSIC-MAKING – MAREK GRECHUTA’S SONGS STILL UP-TO-DATE

Summary/Abstract: Marek Grechuta’s songs – still popular despite the passing years, are fine examples of great creativity, deeply embedded in the traditions of Polish culture (among others due to their lyrics). Not only do they reveal timeless values, but they also inspire new generations of composers proposing covers and arrangements of these songs thus enriching our Polish music culture. Marek Grechuta’s songs can potentially also become teaching materials in music education for children and young people. The article presents the life and career of Grechuta, indicates problems with classifying his artistic output, and highlights the importance of his albums dedicated to children and young people. Numerous covers of Grechuta’s songs are also mentioned as well as successful attempts at their polyphonic arrangements, which – as it is argued – may be treated as an interesting proposal in pedagogical work.
