Summary/Abstract: The text is focusing on the famous debate about the merits of the Greek logic and the Arab grammar between the Muslim grammarian Abu Said as-Sirafi and the Christian logician Abu Bishr Matta in 932. The formal structure of the debate adduces arguments against the Greek logic and its claims to be a universal tool for distinguishing between correct and incorrect speech. On the other hand, within the framework of the debate one can observe the clash between two different ideas about the sources of knowledge, the hierarchy of sciences and the different ways of legitimation of Greek heritage in the Medieval Muslim culture.
