Summary/Abstract: The first step of the analysis was a semantic classification of German street names as it was thought that the semantics affected the process of changes in the names of streets. The analysis showed that some of the street names were translated, the greater part, however, was completely changed. The process of new naming was one of the measures of Polonization of the areas. Most street names in Skwierzyna were cleared of any German traces. Even the street names of a neutral character were translated barely in 50 per cent.
