Summary/Abstract: The article provides a legal analysis of the role and significance of local government units in protecting consumer interests with the focus on the county (or city) consumer ombudsman. The author discusses the role of consumer ombudsmen in the system of consumer protection as carried out by local government units. Important aspects of this analysis are: (a) the interaction between starosta (the head of a county) or city president on the one hand and the consumer ombudsman on the other, and (b) the scope of legal needs of (local) citizens addressed by the consumer ombudsman’s legal purview.
