Summary/Abstract: This is a sketch of the principal provisions of the Romanian Constitutions, beginning with the Constitution from 1866 and ending with the one modified in 2003. The article is focused on those provisions that affected the democratic system in Romania, which resulted in an increase of the individual freedom and a more adequate respect for the individual rights. The conclusion is that the actual Constitution of Romania is harmonized with the provisions of the Treaty Establishing a Constitution for Europe, being a fundament for Romania’s integration in European Union.
