Summary/Abstract: For a long time newspaper texts have almost universally been considered to be extremely careless and full of mistakes. Texts from the radio and from television are thought to be equally bad, although such journalistic texts have not been compared with other, non-journalistic texts with regard to their correctness. This generally low opinion turns out to be unjustified. The press, radio, and TV people do make mistakes, but they also spread the standard, non-regional Polish, and influence the formation of this variety of our national language. Deviations from the linguistic norm are a symptom of the development of the language, and not all of them are blameworthy. Mistakes and awkwardness should be condemned, but the journalists themselves are interested in eliminating them from the language.
