Summary/Abstract: The article presents the results of a comparative analysis of selected polls regarding the civilisational identity of Poles as well as the stereotypes of Poles and Europeans. The main criterion for the selection of the polls is the context of Western Europe and Europeanness treated as a basic point of reference for the sense of national identity expressed by the respondents. The theoretical analysis is based on the model of the public opinion in the study of national identity presented by Zbigniew Bokszański. The analysis provides answers to the questions regarding the structure of Polishness, its borders in relation to Europeanness, the sense of homeliness and strangeness towards the residents of Western Europe, and how these phenomena have changed in the last twenty years.
