Summary/Abstract: The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) defines the development of individual intercultural skills as one of the aims of FLT. Apart from communicative language competences like reading, speaking and writing, the intercultural approach stresses on the development of intercultural awareness on part of the FL learner. Language is not only a means of communication for the purpose of informational exchange. Being an integral part of a national culture, it also grants access to all its aspects. Optimal intercultural awareness and competence can be only achieved when the relevant Cultural Studies become an equal and inseparable part of FLT. Interdisciplinary approach is yet another major tendency in contemporary education. The project “The Script of a Nation: the Image and the Word – Vehicles of Culture” was conceived and carried out with the idea of combining the two approaches to the effect of issuing a volume with works by French and Bulgarian primary school pupils entitled ”The Letter Unveiled”.
