Summary/Abstract: The article is devoted to the analysis of generation gap conflict described in Alaksiey Karpiuk’s novel “The Roots”. Using the example of the main hero Lauren Markievich, the fate of rural pensioners who moved to the city is described. The fact that they were persuaded by their children to leave their homes cannot be ignored. Their homesickness, the feeling of spiritual emptiness and social isolation are emphasized. Alaksiey Karpiuk describes urbanized village children, who leave for the city, succumb to moral decline and cultural consumption in the first generation.
