The National Forum of Occupational Therapy Workshops – anatomy of the emerging social movement

Summary/Abstract: The paper includes an analysis of rank-and-file social movement aiming at reform of Manual Workshops for intellectually disabled participants. This movement is an answer on long termed system negligence. The conceptual base of the movement is a new way of understanding of intellectual disability. Instead of traditional depiction stressing necessity of rehabilitation and therapy, there is stressed here the specificity of mental retardation treated as a manifestation of human diversity which should be respected and protected.
