Summary/Abstract: This work is intended to be a general presentation of what structural thinking meant for the twentieth centurylinguistics. We have reviewed the dates that marked its evolution, the concepts and methodologicalprinciples common to the great structural schools, the name of the respective schools. The core concepts ofstructural linguistics, their evolution and the meaning they acquire for the representatives of the differentschools structural linguistics, the analysis level and the units for every level are further looked into detail.Finally, we have pointed out the way structuralism approaches and rearranges the fields of traditionalgrammar.
