Summary/Abstract: The author shows ways in which press headlines can be used in teaching Polish as a foreign language. Unlike in her former research on utterances, the author’s current focus is on phrases. She investigates those which appeared in Gazeta Wyborcza headlines between 2000 and 2008. The author studies the collocations of the highest frequency, their canonical/dictionary realizations, as well as their modified forms. The latter are claimed to result from journalistic strategies aimed at making headlines more attractive, expressive, and thus more readable. Instructors of Polish as a foreign language will find the paper an interesting source of materials for teaching Polish phraseology.
