THE LANGUAGE OF POLITICIANS AS TEACHING MATERIALS FOR THE POLISH AS FOREIGN LANGUAGE

Summary/Abstract: The language of politicians, when used as authentic teaching material, can help to develop communicative competence. Working with the texts by politicians requires the teacher to have courage and tact, because the texts are often full of aggression. Frequently, they are also persuasive speech, which can be used to teach persuasive communication. Based on the texts by politicians and the persuasion process schema, students can independently create persuasive statements. Politics is a part of culture and national identity, thus learning the language of politics supports the development of sociocultural competence.
