Summary/Abstract: The present paper initiates a discussion regarding the roles ofinformants during fieldresearch, roles which can be found in severalclassical texts of English and French anthropology.Afterwards, it brings into discussion a field research done during2007 – 2011, in Solotvino, a locality in transcarpathian Ukraine, andaims at investigating the ways in which the main subject of researchplays different roles in relation to the researcher and her owncommunity. Thus, the paper follows the subtle ways in whichMarioara Deiac, former teacher in Solotvino, becomes not only aprofessional informant but a cultural mediator between her owncommunity and the researchers’ community.
