An Approach on the Relation between Subsistence and Transcendence

Summary/Abstract: This article deals with the various attempts of contemporary philosophers of religion, metaphysicians and theologians to deal with the problem of transcendence. All these attempts are built on the rejection of the traditional Western idea of transcendence, seen as insufficiently strong at the one end of the critical spectrum, or as being too radical, at the other end. Various substitutes have been proposed by postmodern philosophers and theologians: from the radical transcendence to the immanent transcendence, all built on the suggestion on the necessity to transcend transcendence itself. In this context it is then presented the attempt of Romanian philosopher Alexandru Surdu to deal with the problem of Transcendence as a modality of Subsistence, from the classical perspective of the systematic tradition of Western philosophy.
