Summary/Abstract: The article is about the destiny of the Bulgarians who have been living for centuries in the vast Russian lands. The author believes that every people, its traditions and unique culture could be best understood if we get to know man’s humdrum memory. This is because perceptions about the people are based to a great extent on the memories of each generation of the respective ethnic community. In this paper the life of the Bulgarians is disclosed through the story of an ordinary family – that of Marfa Ivanovna Moscatova (Klincheva). Her life from early childhood till the present day is described against the background of all political transformations Russia went through in the 20th century (the Russian Empire, the USSR, the Russian Federation), as well as all historical events during the same period: the October Revolution, the Great Patriotic Fatherland War, the life in new Russia. These experiences were entwined into the destiny of the ordinary Bulgarians, who as a result of their proverbial diligence, overcame all vicissitudes and found their well-deserved place in the vortex of life.
