Summary/Abstract: The article outlines essential elements of the intellectual climate of Ancient Greece, that had a considerable impact upon establishment and development of Plato’s Academy - the first-ever advanced education school in Europe. Furthermore, it presents the extent of issues being the subject matter of interest in scientific studies related to the fundamentals of human rationalism and social life. The cognitive output as well as related outstanding issues were reconsidered by the then established schools maintaining the climate of intellectual debate, which was the permanent intellectual backup of the Latin civilisation. The concurrent appearance of the Christianity and take-over of the juridical legacy of Rome contributed to establishment of the first University in the 11th Century, and subsequently set up universities, where freedom of research and necessary backup facilities were guaranteed within the institutional framework.
