Summary/Abstract: The article refers to love. It treats it as a pretext for deliberations on the identity of the eponymous hero of a novel by Stanisław Srokowski. Looking at the character created by the writer – Miti Korpak – I can prove that the writer has undertaken a double game: with a romantic image of a lover and a negative stereotype of a Ukrainian. Srokowski has equipped his hero with a range of features which are characteristic for a romantic lover, among others: he is in love from the first sight, crazy, mysterious, hiding his own identity. The national feature serves as the ground for enlisting Miti into the Ukrainian Insurgent Army. Making Korpak a Bandera's man, Srokowski involves a reader into a game with a stereotype. Finally, he makes the reading public aware of the fact that: the world is not black and white, one Ukrainian differs from another.
