Summary/Abstract: The Diocese of Sejny existed to the First World War. At the beginning of its existence there were 114 priests, whilst at the end there were 357. Canon Law defined their individual duties, which were precisely mentioned for the Diocese of Sejny in the visitation reports of the bishops and deans. The author shows us that these rules were observed as concerns priestly retreats, the Assembly of Deans, studies, residence in parishes, priestly attire, the recitation of the breviary, individual confession (of priests), funerals, preaching, the visiting of the sick, and general behaviour. He also mentions their negligence: vagrancy, drunkenness, card playing and wrangling.
