Summary/Abstract: A major task of the research of the art of antiquity is to promote the solution of the topical problems of our age. One of them is acculturation, i. e. the examination of how the cultures rooted in different traditions behave when they meet. Another question is what the studying of the legacy of antiquity can offer to the understanding of contemporary art. Its other side is how the knowledge of the phenomena of modern art can help the better understanding of the particular features of the art of antiquity. Present study, by discussing the shape and ornaments of a hitherto unpublished Etruscan vase, dated to around 700 BC, in the Szépmûvészeti Múzeum, Budapest, attempts to find at least a partial answer for the two questions while outlining the profile of a vase-painter working in Veii on the basis of his works.
