Summary/Abstract: The reasons for spiritual poverty are present somewhere inside man. It is necessary to arrive at the essence of the human being, that is an unrepeatable, complex being. The characteristic that defines the subjectivity of the human being is the ability to make choices. It is possible to consciously choose what is evil, what has no value, what is harmful, what is a sin. Such an action leads man into an area of spiritual want, a desert as concerns spiritual values, a world of spiritual poverty. The observation of moral principles and living according to what has value, can protect one from spiritual poverty. This article presents the areas of our life that are “weed-choked” by different kinds of moral want and the reasons for this; the need for understanding the existing problem and for a personal committal towards the change of the existing situation with the use of means that are available, with the help of institutions defending and propagating the philosophy of life having value. Thus the point is to achieve such a state of humanity, that the area of spiritual poverty becomes diminished, that the spiritual prevail over what is sensual and material in us. It is necessary to make effort to change the materialistic philosophy of life to a humanistic and Christian style.
